Okay, we’ve got a new poll … should Knitting Scholar review magazines? Or just stick to books?

  1. Am I supposed to see a poll? Or just answer?

How would you review magazines? Articles and patterns? Or the magazine as a whole? Puzzled.

  2. add magazines please – it would be most helpful to those of us who have limited purchasing power in these hard economic times.

  3. How much time do you have? For the consumer, it is easy to browse magazines at the book store, grocery store, LYS, etc. that I don’t think reviews are as needed. The price of a magazine is more reasonable. You get a whole magazine for the price of buying a pattern at the LYS. If you find a pattern you like in a magazine, go for it.
A comparison of the differences among the various magazines might be more interesting. How stylish, how well are patterns are written, are the illustrations good, are the patterns tested, are errors posted, and so forth. I find there isconsistency of companies such as Vogue from issue to issue.

  5. I would love to see review of individual issues of magazines. Something like the lastest “Vogue Knits” is a “must have”, but “skip” the spring “Knitters Magazine”.
Yes, budgets are tight and knitting magazines are expensive. But if we could know which magazines were worth plunking down our sheckels for, it would be very helpful!

  6. Just found your site (from your Ravatar) and I’d like to see mags reviewed as well, especially the “special edition” ones, such as Knitscene, or the Debbie Bliss magazine, that are available via subscription.

  8. And I just now – the next day – see the poll in the middle of the page. Not sure what this says…about me and/or the location of the polls. =:p

  9. I’d stick to just books. Seems like there are always a few new knitting books when I stop by the bookstore or one of my LYS (which is way too often for both of those places).

Thanks for the Wendy interview – I enjoyed that!
