There’s a new, winter poll on the front page … How are YOU keeping warm this winter?
Sometimes, of course, you want to read about knitting, but you don’t want to read about KNITTING. You’re not interested in patterns. You’re not interested in yet another collection of stitches, or in reading the knitty-gritty of some new knitting technique. This is where essays are remarkably handy. Collections of stories, reminiscenses. Tales of sweaters [...]
Not My Daughter tells the story of three teenage girls who stun their New England town by forming a pact to get pregnant at the same time. The girls are all good students, “achievers,” as one mother puts it, which just adds to the shock as the ripples and the news spread.
The main part of this book is taken up by the mittens. Lots of mittens. Glorious mittens. Bright, colorful, creative, they make you wish for snow kind of mittens. 42 patterns for the mittens themselves, along with charts for the cuffs so you can mix-and-match, and an assortment of edges so you can finish your mittens however you like.
First, I want to thank everyone for coming–it’s readers like you that make this so worthwhile. Merry Christmas, everyone, whether you celebrate the holiday or not–because no matter what your religious affiliation, you deserve a wonderful day. So, have as non-denominationally merry day as you possibly can!
Two great instructional videos from Interweave Press. Curious about Cables or Fair Isle knitting? You have to check these out!
It took me years to get my hands on a copy of this book–not because it was so hard to find, but because, interested though I was, I wasn’t willing to pay full price. Which is why I was so delighted when it came up on the Interweave Hurt Book Sale list a year or so ago (and why my copy doesn’t have a paper cover). So, the big question–was it worth the wait? Worth the price?
Do you have a knitter on your gift-list this year? Or maybe you’d like to do a little shopping for yourself? Here are some of the books I recommend–some are old, some are new, but all are wonderful additions to any library.
Most knitters know that knitting is relaxing. (When things are going right, that is.) Sometimes, though, you need a little extra nudge to make it as soothing as it can be.
You know, it occurs to me that I haven’t had a contest in a while … I’m going to need to change that! So … start thinking about your favorite knitting blogs. (Just a hint)
The bad part about reviewing a book of stitch patterns is that there’s really not that much to say. They’re just stitches, right?
Well, yes and no.
